Description
The main herb in this prescription Andrographis is presently undergoing study in AIDS clinical trials and by pharmaceutical companies, based on its reputation as a potent antiviral herb. It is famous not only in classical Chinese medicine, but also in Ayurvedic medicine (chiretta seed), where it is also used for infectious conditions with Heat. Recent studies show that Andrographis is effective in inhibiting staphylococcus, pseudomonas, proteus vulgaris, shigella dysenteriae, staphylococcus, and E-Coli. In modern Chinese practice, it is being applied to enteric infections, leprosy, tuberculosis, hepatitis, Kidney infections, various cancers, snake bites, septicemia, and other systemic infections. Antiphlogistic Formula is best used clinically for deep-seated viral disorders, chronic and acute infections, and to reduce inflammation, fever and hot swelling. It can easily be added to other prescriptions (such as Gan Mao Ling, Zhong Gan Ling, or Dispel Invasion) to enhance their effect.
