Digestzymes is a proprietary blend of betaine HCI and digestive enzymes which promote the healthy digestion of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. The formula also contains dipeptidyl peptidase IV, which is fundamental for the breakdown of gluten- and casein-specific peptides, as well as an enzyme called lactase that supports the breakdown of dairy sugar lactose. Taking Digestzymes before meals can help combat after-eating bloating, gas, constipation, and the feeling of fullness that is experienced even after consuming small amounts of food.
Digestive enzymes are proteins naturally found in the body (secreted by the pancreas) that are involved in the digestion of food and can help treat a wide array of health issues, including digestive disorders. They have the important quality to break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. However, when the pancreas’ optimal function is jeopardized due to injury or illness, the production of these enzymes slows down. Eventually, there are not enough digestive enzymes to ensure that the body absorbs the nutrients in the consumed food (malabsorption). When that happens, it is paramount the individual takes a mixture of digestive enzymes to regain the healthy function of the digestive system, whose health affects a large number of other body functions, including the immune system, as well as mental and brain health.
Digestive enzymes are used to help combat the symptoms of (and even treat) the following conditions:
It is also said that enzyme deficiency can accelerate the aging process, given that each and every body cell requires enzymes to maintain its biochemical function while optimal levels can contribute to lowering cholesterol. When taken on an empty stomach between meals (rather than with meals), they may also reduce inflammation, manage arthritis, combat cancer, improve liver health, and stimulate the immune system. For all these reasons, digestive enzymes are particularly beneficial to individuals with weak digestive systems and low stomach acid, as they (the enzymes) maximize the nutritional intake of a meal by decomposing food (to ensure it is entirely digested).
Unfortunately, the modern lifestyle includes a diet devoid of natural enzymes. In reality, the foods most people consume do very little to stimulate the secretion of enzymes by the body itself. This means that the food consumed cannot be properly digested, allowing much of the nutrients to be simply flushed out of the body without being absorbed. Some of the most essential enzymes are those needed to digest protein (proteolytic enzymes), fat (lipase), and carbohydrates (amylase), all of which are included in the Digestzymes formula.
The formula contains a proprietary blend of the following key compounds:
Ox Bile Extract – It helps the function of the gallbladder and liver (particularly essential for individuals that had their gallbladder removed) while also assisting with the production of additional bile to disinfect, process, and digest proteins and fat.
Protease (DPPIV) – Protease DPPIV (aka dipeptidyl peptidase IV) is an enzyme that can degrade gluten from food intake and also assist in digesting (and utilizing) foods that contain casein. Besides, it prevents gluten particles from finding their way to the small intestines and cause digestive problems.
Amylase – An ingredient that breaks down starch in food into smaller carbohydrate molecules (maltose). In the body, it is produced by both the salivary glands (salivary amylase) and the pancreas (pancreatic amylase) and is vital for the completion of digestion of carbohydrates.
Pepsin – This compound breaks certain protein chemical bonds, produce peptides (small molecules), and initiates digestion.
Lactase – It plays a pivotal role in the complete digestion of whole milk by breaking down a sugar responsible for giving milk a sweet taste called lactose. Individuals lacking lactase experience lactose intolerance symptoms when they consume dairy products.
Invertase – An essential enzyme with the ability to hydrolyze the bond between glucose and fructose, which is vital when digesting complex sugars because the body uses glucose as a fuel source.
Lipase – An enzyme responsible for the breakdown of dietary fats (specifically butter fat) into glycerol and fatty acids (smaller molecules), which then travel in the bloodstream and the lymph vessels to reach all parts of the body and provide the necessary energy and nutrients.
Other Ingredients: Rice bran, vegetable stearate, and microcrystalline cellulose.
