How Slow-GI Works
Slow-GI by Dr. Kang Formulas is a traditional Chinese herbal formula used for constipation.
From the Western perspective fecal impaction causing or arising from constipation is common in bedridden or wheelchair patients due to reduced GI motility arising from lack of physical activity. Chronic constipation is common in individuals who lack exercise who have a diet low in fiber and high in concentrated, processed foods who are elderly and have decreases in intrinsic colonic reflexes and who may be using constipating medications. Changes in bowel habits may also cause infrequent or hard stools.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, constipation arises from imbalances relating to the Lung, Spleen and Kidney. First, the Lung is related to the Large Intestine by way of a Superior/Interior relationship. Lung Heat and Dryness can move down into the Large Intestine causing the Large Intestine to lose its transporting function resulting in constipation. Second, the Spleen has the function of transporting, distributing and transforming Nutrients and promoting Water metabolism. Spleen disorders can result in constipation. Third, the Kidney stores the Essence of life both congenital and acquired. When the Kidney's Essence has become too consumed, this can lead to constipation.
