Description

Irritease is designed to specifically treat the condition known as Irritable Bowel Syndrome. A Liver-Spleen disharmony is the primary manifestation, which may be complicated by other disease patterns. The Liver and Spleen interact with each other on the ke or restraining cycle in five phase theory. In a pattern of disharmony the restraining Liver
Qi may cause stagnation, oppression and ultimately vacuity where diarrhea and pain are the main manifestations. Due to the Spleen Qi vacuity, Dampness will be generated internally and its turbidity will drain downward. When this turbid Damp combines with depressed Liver Qi, pain, borborygmus and diarrhea result. A commonly seen pattern with a Liver-Spleen disharmony is Damp-Heat in the Stomach and intestines. The accumulation of turbid Damp in the Middle and Lower Burners will ostruct the transformative action of the Yang Qi and over time will transform into Damp-Heat, creating such symptoms as dark odorous stools, mouth and tongue sores, thirst, vaginitis, acne and general Damp-Heat conditions. Herbs such as Yin chen hao, huang bai and huang lian have been added to help address this problem. This prescription is the same as the one used in a double-blind placebo trial done specifically to test its effectiveness in treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
