About Blue Earth Dragon
Blue Earth Dragon is a modification of the traditional Minor Blue Dragon formula, where Ephedra (Ma Huang) and Asarum (Xi Xin) are replaced with Perilla (Su Ye), Citrus (Zhi Shi), Cnidium (Chuan Qiong), Earthworm (Di Long), Chrysanthemum (Ju Hua), and Angelica (Bai Zhi). It is actually a blend of the Pinellia, Citrus, and Cinnamon Combination formulas that treat acute surface-affecting disorders and watery sputum related to a surface disorder. For conditions where the dominant symptom is not sinus discharge, you could consider Cinnamon 14. However, for non-watery obstinate sinus congestion, Platycodon 14 is a great option. Finally, Pinellia 16 is an excellent formula for phlegm disorders that have to do more with the lungs rather than the sinuses.
How Blue Earth Dragon Works
In traditional Chinese medicine, Blue Earth Dragon is used for sinus qi obstruction, sneezing, resolving congestion, releasing surface, supporting nasal health, clearing local heat, and resolving phlegm due to its beneficial properties. Although it derives from the well-known traditional formula Minor Blue Dragon Combination, the fact that it has replaced some ingredients with opening and cooling herbs, namely earthworm and chrysanthemum, enables it to be more effective in resolving severe congestion and excessive mucus while also clearing local heat and reducing infection.
In Chinese mythology, the Blue Dragon is an East dragon that is believed to not only generate clouds but also make them produce rain. This concept reflects the symptoms the formula treats with the extra help of the earth dragon, also commonly known as dilong or earthworm. Adding the earthworm compound helps combat stagnant mucus, which is often the result of persistent sinus infections and allergies. In the five Chinese elements, the earth aspect is typical of stagnant dampness.
