  • Enriches the yin and moistens the Lungs: for dry cough with little sputum production due to Lung qi and yin deificiency and cough due to consumption. Can be used for any type of cough where dryness is significant. Also used for enxhaustion of Kidney essence with lower back pain, lightheadedness, and weakness of the lower extremities along with wasting and thirsting disorder.

"The freshly harvested rhizome is sealed into a watertight container with yellow rice wine, then double-boiled until the wine is absorbed and the herb no longer has a numbing sensatiion in the mouth. The container is shaken occasionally to ensure uniform exposure to the wine. This method of preparation enhances its tonifying qualities, and reduces its greasy nature so that it is not cloying. Owing to the wine's acrid, dispersing qualities, which help it unblock the channels and collaterals, some regard this method of preparation as more appropriate for treating weakness of the knees and joint pain." - Bensky
